The Caribbean Week of Agriculture to be held in Antigua and Barbuda, October 2012

The Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from the 14th to 20th October 2012, under the theme “Celebrating Youth and Gender in Caribbean Agriculture: each endeavouring all achieving.”  This will mark the 11th year the event takes place. “It is convened under the guidance of the Alliance for Sustainable Development of Agriculture and the Rural Environment (“The Alliance”) which seeks to place agriculture and rural life on the “front burner” of regional integration activities.”

In short the event acts as a meeting ground for the regional Ministries of Agriculture, agri stakeholders, and  agricultural institutions and organisations such as the  Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), the Food and Agriculture organisation(FAO), the Caribbean Farmers Network and the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) to discuss and set out regional agricultural policy, while engaging and sharing strategies.

The Caribbean Agricultural Forum for Youth (CAFY), a constituent member of the Alliance, convenes a meeting each year during the CWA. This year, in addition to its executive meeting, CAFY members will participate in a three-day workshop on Youth and Rural Modernization sponsored by the CTA.

An executive member of the Agribusiness Society of UWI (ABS) in collaboration with  IICA will be a representative at the CAFY meeting and workshop. Our participation will provide “one voice” in terms of the needs of Agri Youth from Trinidad and Tobago.

However we need to hear from you, the youths involved in agriculture! It doesn’t matter where your field of study or work lies. It doesn;t matter wher ein the world you live. What you might experience somwhere in africa of the pacific can  possibly be a shared experience here in Trinidad and the wider Caribbean.

We youth all have needs! Tell us what they are! Technical assistance, changes in agri-education, job opportunities, land resources, finances, human resources, technologies, agri information, job security, marketing services, logistics strategy you name it!
